Studying fish is necessary to develop conservation techniques!

updates

Conservation techniques develop from studying fish, as our knowledge of fish marine biology is necessary to efficiently protect and preserve our aquatic environment!

Resident Platinum PADI Course Director Richard Swann teaches our Sabah Travel Centre experts, Sarah Jane and Joey, the PADI Fish Identification Specialty. The course includes 2 dives, in which the ladies will record their sightings of a variety of fish families behaviorology.

Richard also suggests for the ladies to set up a field study dive to estimate fish population with different scientific techniques, using transects and quadrats, which makes for interesting surmising of their data! For example, during their training dives, they might record numbers of individual starfish spotted in a particular area. When visiting again in future, the same data collection techniques are applied to see if there's any difference.

It is a passionate contribution our dive operations have: to understand what effects our marine life and their natural environment! And when groups of university students arrive for their marine biology field trip to conduct scientific surveys of biodiversity, it is a fulfilling aspect of being a dive educator to inspire others to learn more of this fascinating underwater world!
