Don’t let it be the end of an era for sharks!

updates

We need to work together to avoid seeing this underwater! Don’t let it be the end of an era for sharks!

Can you believe it? This is a shark – sorry! No! – was once a shark!

During the recent leisure dive where one of our PADI professional diving staff found an illegally dumped ‘Ghost Net’, a 1½-metre Blacktip reef shark was discovered almost beyond recognition due to the feeding frenzy on its decaying carcass.

A team of professional divers was organised swiftly on the next dive of the day to remove harmful marine debris that stretched over the reef for 50 metres, and thankfully there were some marine animals lucky enough to get released from the entanglement of the net. Whether they are lucky enough to survive is another matter, because the trauma of such an experience leaves any living thing so physiologically damaged that survival rate is so low.

It is a rightful duty of all professional and recreational divers to assist the marine environment, and this means preventing any marine debris from entering our delicate seas and oceans!
