Dive Instructor. Project AWARE diver. Now Boat Captain!

updates

Kerry is a newly qualified dive Instructor, an active Project AWARE diver for a long time, and now boat Captain!

Marine conservation is a passion for both dive Instructors and boat Captains, which makes perfect sense for our ‘Work For a Career’ local Sabahan internship candidate to complete both professional leadership skills.

Kerry has acquired experience both as a dive leader, as well as a boat handler, and particulalrly concerning marine conservation programs, such as our beach and underwater clean-ups to collect marine debris.

The skills of a Captain differs from those of an Instructor because of the different perspective. Many Instructors rely far too heavily on the Captain’s judgment, without gaining the perspective of a Captain, which is that their overwater navigation of reefs determines if the Instructor or Divemaster gets to navigate the reef underwater and also the protection and preservation of the underwater world. For example, one of the many laws to abide in holding a boating license is not to damage the marine environment when anchoring.

It’s great for Kerry to take advantage of this lucky opportunity to handle one of Downbelow’s fast speedboats to gain that valuable Captains’ perspective of scuba diving! We look forward to what else Kerry will be upto in his future for both his career and the marine world!
