Professional divers must be active in conservation!
Being active in marine conservation is a crucial part of the dive lifestyle for professional divers, and this is very true for all volunteers on our recent net removal dive in the Tunku Abdul Rahman marine park!
During one of our leisure dives conducted daily from our premier PADI 5 Star IDC Dive Centre to guide our clients, one of our PADI professional island staff came across an enormous ‘ghost net’.
The following scheduled dive, a separate dive boat is readied for the organized team of volunteers and the entire project is fully sponsored by our Downbelow operations.
Experienced professional diver trainer and resident Platinum PADI Course Director Richard Swann, led the team with a dive briefing on how to efficiently remove the fishing net. Safety is always the highest priority at our Dive Centre and Richard reminds the team of PADI professional divers participating (as well as those in-training) to maintain buddy team communication and support!
Now the illegally discarded net is removed and there’s a chance our underwater rainforest can regain balance to be the colourful and biodiverse reef it once was!
