Downbelow Teams Up with Kinabalu International School

updates

This weekend past Downbelow teamed up with locally based Kinabalu International School for a marine-debris clean-up.

The group, lead by teacher, dive enthausiast and PADI OWSI, Gareth Pearson, included 36 students, teachers and extra volunteers.

They worked in 2 groups; 1 which combed and cleaned the beach, and another that joined Downbelow's boats to snorkel to the rocky shallows for cleaning the shores not accible by land.

After a humongous effort and working hard the whole day long, the group managed to collect a whopping 647kg of rubbish.

During the scrumptious fresh lunch provided by Downbelow, Gareth gave an educational talk and a knowledge review to help reinforce lessons learned during the day.

The day's logistics were sponsored by Downbelow, whilst Sabah Parks provided the degradable rubbish bags and waived the park fees for the participants.

Kinabalu International School raised RM540, that will be donated to Project AWARE to help continue their great efforts to conserve our oceans and the life within.

We look forward to working with the Kinabalu International School in future.

They have a dive club at their school, which is affiliated with Downbelow's KK Dive Club, and enables us to do great things together.
