Paradise means no plastic!

updates

Again we conducted another project to clean the beaches of our Gaya Island paradise because it deserves to be free of marine debris, and the most harmful culprit is plastic!

Plastic is slow to biodegrade and thus poses the highest risk to our natural environment and its inhabitants.

Unfortunately, society has taken advantage of the consumption of plastic for its durability and low production costs. A major contributor to marine debris is the manufacturing process of plastic that begins with small particles of plastic, which are bleakly and aptly named ‘mermaid’s tears’. These tiny pellets are roughly 5mm in diameter and their accidental spilling into the seas and oceans causes devastating effects. It’s small enough to choke even the smallest marine life, such as krill!

The UK-based students from Camps International have just completed the PADI Open Water Diver course, and their dive education is supported by the volunteering efforts to assist our island staff team in cleaning the beaches because they will note the astounding amount of plastic collected. Their newfound knowledge, combined with this practical experience, will inspire them to spread their awareness of what nature has to battle against on a daily basis and we have provided them this valuable experience to commit to an environmentally friendly lifestyle.

A difference is possible if anyone effected involved contributes to making the difference our environment needs for its preservation! And anyone effected is: everyone!
