Celebrating World Water Day! Spring Beach Cleanup in Kilimajuu!

updates

To celebrate World Water Day 2015, I decided to organize  a Beach cleanup in collaboration with Panga Chumvi Resort and with the help of ZANREC, who already gave me a hand in the past for my two last Cleanup on the North East coast of the island. The event will start at 10am , as the tide will start going out, so plenty of time to pick up the maximum of trash!

The cleanup will start from Panga Chumvi and extend about 350m towards North and 650m towards South. There starts the village of Kilimajuu. The main part of the area in between is littered by trash of various origin. A big resort used to  be right on this beach but is now closed and the perimeter is gated with corrugated sheets. Nobody is taking care of the beach front and many detritus have accumulated with time, spoiling regularly the surroundings. To solve the problem, we need to take it at its source!

I contacted 16 of hotels and resorts on this side of Zanzibar as well as some individuals who are great people and always ready to volunteer for a good cause. I will be able to talk to the teacher of the Kilimajuu primary school in the next few days, to explain the project to the kids and try to get them join and spread the word!

I took some pics of the place as it is now and will take more shots of the exact same spots once the cleanup done to emphasize the effect of the change.
