This week I represented Project AWARE at a national meeting of conservation groups involved in marine park campaigns in Australia. 2011 is a major year for marine parks in Australia with the Federal Government set to announce new marine parks in 4 marine bioregions around the country. Project AWARE is involved in the Protect Our Coral Sea campaign, which seeks protection for the Coral Sea off Australia's NE coast, one of the last pristine areas of ocean in the world, and Save Our Marine Life, which seeks protection for the SW Australian coast, a place where as much as 90% of the marine life is found no where else on earth and blue whales comes come to feed. Project AWARE is working with other national and international conservation groups to gain protection for these precious marine areas.
