100 Days of Clean Up - Days 46 - 50

updates

It's HALFTIME here at Seaventures and our big project of cleaning up the ocean for 100 days. Over the past 5 days our Staff was doing a fanastic job to get rid of 15.1kg of debris that's stucked mostly in the coral or burried in the sand under the Rig.  Since the beginning we noticed that the biggest problems were plastics, as expected. Particulary food wrappers and plastic bags are found every day. Of some we know that it's coming directly from the villagers of our neighbouring island Mabul. How we know? Sometimes we can find whole trash bags while we clean up. When we open them up we find diapers, other sanitary articles and a lot more plastic inside - thrown as a nice bundle into the ocean.

It's also really sad to see that many of the food wrappers that we find seem to come directly from the resorts around Mabul. Things like coffee and coffee mate, sugar, teabags and wrapped up snacks like crackers and chips are a common find. Same goes here for beverage cans like Cola, Sprite and 100Plus. That's why todays pictures shows the amount of everyday articles that were fished out by our Diveteam over the past 3 days only.

After 50 days of clean up we reached a total amount of 282,8kg of debris removed from our housereef. We are positive that we can reach at least 500kg over the 100 days, which is the sad truth of garbage that is found and going to be find on 1! Divesite only.
