100 Days of Clean Up - Day 1
So we started today our mammut project to clean up our housereef for the next 100 Days.
We here at Seaventures are located around 1km away from the Island of Mabul in the Celebes Sea. While we have amazing diving here we also have a problem with debris. That's why I descided to do a survey of all the stuff that we pick out of the Ocean right under us for the next 100 days. Our housereef is literally an elevator ride away. While the seabed is mostly sand, rocks and coral there is also a lost of artificial reef down here where floating garbage, especially plastic gets stucked very easyly. For the next 100 days we want to encourage our guests to help the diveteam and the diving part of the rigcrew as much as possible to clean up our housereef. The event is going on over a couple of major events like Christmas and Chinese New Year. Let's see if this events have an impact on what, and in what amount, is floating in our ocean.
We want to include many guests, but today was the day of the Rigcrew. In the end there were 8 of us. 3 Divemasters (Suki, Adam and Kyna), 3 Instructors (Mark, Ron, myself), 1 Boatman (Maja) and our Frontoffice Lady (Kim). We went for a dive and picked up 24kg of debris within 50 minutes. and the best was that our effort was immediatly rewarded: on the way back to the ascent line Kyna spotted a Blue Ring Octopus so we watched him a bit before heading back up. let's hope that the coming days will be as good as this one :D
