Meet the team

updates

Blue Guru Conservation’s dive team & eco-tourism interns are integral to our Ocean Action Project research. It is the responsibility of each team member to record sightings of sharks, rays, turtles & fishing boats on every dive & snorkel session conducted throughout the season.

It is with great pleasure that we can now introduce our new team who will be participating in our Ocean Action Project & other eco-projects during 2014-15 season.

This season, our Ocean Action Project & Shark Guardian data collection will be managed on a day-to-day basis by Nikki Williams.  This is Nikki’s 3rd year working on Koh Phra Thong, she has a Masters degree in Conservation, experience with Naucrates Turtle Conservation Project and is a PADI Instructor.

Other members of the dive team will play a critical role in recording accurate data on all the dives they lead, including on our 2 day/1 night Richelieu Rock & Surin Islands dive safari which offers the best chance of whale shark & manta ray sightings.

This season, our amazing dive team also includes Dive Centre Manager Cedric, Instructor Stephane and Divemaster Charith. Every dive team member has been trained to record data required for our Ocean Action Project, Shark Guardian research & other international research projects such as Whale Shark Project, Spot the Leopard Shark, Manta Matcher, Sea Turtle, iSeahorse & Dive for Debris.

Our research team includes 2 eco-tourism interns too. They will be responsible for all data entry and will also be conducting surveys when leading our 3 day/2 night Surin snorkelling trips. Saoirse has a degree in Zoology & experience participating in turtle conservation projects. Sabine is in the final year of her International Tourism Management degree. Together they will combine their skills & knowledge to support our eco-projects & engage our customers in marine conservation.

For the 7th year running, PADI Course Director, Helen Macnee, remains the driving force & guru behind all our eco-projects.

Our dive season officially starts on 1st November but already there has been a whale shark sighting at Richelieu Rock. Hopefully this is a good omen for a fantastic dive season ahead …
