Blue Guru's 1st beach clean up of new dive season

updates

The day before Koh Phra Thong’s high season officially kicked off on 1st November, the Blue Guru Conservation team spent
a full day collecting debris from the beach and surrounding natural environment of Horizon Beach Resort, where Blue Guru’s new dive shop is located.

During a 6 month low season with monsoon rains & winds hitting the Andaman coast of Thailand, Koh Phra Thong’s 15km of undeveloped beaches can become awash with marine debris, primarily from offshore fishing boats.

The collection of debris included 100 plastic bottles, 60 glass bottles, 30 plastic bags, 20 ropes, 15 cans, 10 light bulbs, 8 plastic oil cans, countless polystyrene floats and would you believe it … 80 flip-flops!!!

The weirdest thing the team found was our own ‘Mr Wilson’ from the movie Cast Away – a buoy with a face. Some staff think the face looks like an alien … others are convinced it’s Ghostbusters’ Stay Puft Marshmallow Man!!

Either way, we want our beaches and sea clear of debris, so this story is "to be continued" …
