Lagoon area, Dahab, Underwater and Beach Clean up

updates

One area of Dahab that should be beautiful but is unfortunately known for the plastic bags flying and getting stuck in the shrubs is the Lagoon area south of Islands dive site.

On 10 September 2014, we organized a big clean up, mobilizing resources so that we could not only tackle the underwater problem but the land one and hopefully make a difference that would last a bit! The area had recently been cleared by bulldozers as some illegal restaurants/huts had been built but the clearing was far from complete as lot of debris had been left behind on the beach and in the sea.

Thanks to 18 people responding present and working together we managed to not only do a thorough underwater clean up, we also managed a 5 hour afternoon land clean up in the surrounding area, collecting nearly 50 large trash bags in an atmosphere of fun and camaraderie. This event was a great success with the local recycling company collecting our bags so they could then be sorted and hopefully recycled.

We were very happy with the turn out and can't thank enough all that spent hours helping and making Dahab nicer and cleaner.
