Reef Day 2013, June 1st 2013, at The Reef Dive Resort, Mataking Island, Sabah, Malaysia – “Eco-Awareness: The future is in our hands”

Building on Mataking’s previous community events, the theme for this year annual event will be “Eco-Awareness: The Future is in Our Hands”.

The Reef Dive Resort at Mataking Island will come again together with schools, community leaders, local NGO’s and local authorities to make the aquatic world and environment a better place in the Sabah area.

Patrick Guillaumin-Galland, Resort Manager, adds: “Each year we try to make the Reef Day a unique event, and this year we will be innovating again, with two distinct programs, one for non-divers with awareness talks, beach clean-up and games, and one for scuba divers including participation in discover reef check, underwater cleaning and coral planting dives.”

Events for the day will both educational and fun and will take part both in Mataking Kecil and Mataking Besar, but also in Pandanan and Kalapuan.

There will great educational workshops by WWF and Reef Surveys by Reef Check Malaysia and other key local experts, all of which will culminate in the evening with a BBQ and special Staff Performance.
