On Saturday, September 21, 2013, the International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) takes place in over 100 countries and territories bordering every major body of water on Earth! It is the world's largest volunteer effort to cleanup the marine environment and collect marine environmental data from both land and sea.

Sea turtles commonly ingest floating plastic, mistaking it for food. Leatherback sea turtles, the world's largest sea turtle, have died as a direct result of eating plastic bags and plastic debris in the oceans. At least 80% of the ocean's plastic pollution originates from land, so cleaning up plastic from our neighborhoods is an easy and effective way to save sea turtles!
