On 19 June 2014, volunteers in coordination with Debris Free Bonaire will conduct a beach cleanup of Bonaire's eastern shoreline. The cleanup will focus on removing recyclable trash. The eastern coastline of Bonaire accumulates a large amount of plastic trash that has drifted along the current from South America. More and more floating plastic arrives every hour. It is extremely dangerious to the ecosystem and Bonaire's sea turtles. Not only can marine life become entangled in the debris, they can also mistake it for food and eat it. Plastic slowly breaks down into smaller and smaller pieces, and it's slowly poisoning the entire food chain.
