Please help support Bangkok's 1st rescue is in the works.

A rare chance to participate in Bangkok's first ever shark rescue.

A large NGO and independent Bali Sharks Rescue Center were notified and asked if anything could be done about a bar in the middle of Bangkok that contained sharks.  While the larger NGO ignored the request, Bali Sharks was intrigued by the challenge.  In 2013 they were instrumental in assisting Thai Airways to become a Fin Free carrier.  More recent was success in exposing slavery within tuna fisheries that lead to several human trafficking agency arrest in Thailand.   Bali Sharks has investigated the feasibility of the bar shark situation in Thailand having come off a similar rescue in Bali.

Rescuing sharks in the middle of a bar in Bangkok offers its own challenges the first being getting in front of the owners.   After two days of meeting with "Mamasan" and managers explaining why we were there,  we got to meet the Owners the third day.   Coincidentally they had recently purchased the bar and admitted the "sharks were cool at first" but realized this was no place for them.   When asked if they were comfortable letting us retrieve the sharks they suggested the sooner the better.

Next challenge was where to take them and Paragon Mall had what was once the "largest aquarium in Asia" just down the street.  They showed no interest, besides moving sharks into a larger captive facility wasn't the greatest alternative.   They would never be able to get transferred for release if stuck in a malls aquarium.   As luck would have it a Marine Science center was located less than two hours away leaving only the traffic to contend with.

One of the bar owners was asked about the possibility of help from the Royal Thai Police.  Sure enough he picks up his phone & confirms the police have offered to help escort the safe transfer of the sharks.  From there we have planned logistics, budgets, the equipment & process, and have received approval from the Marine Science Center.

Although Bali Sharks success rate is above the aquarium trade's 50% survival rate, It is unknown how strong or what kind of condition the sharks are in.  We have streamlined the entire transfer to be less then 2 hours in a controlled situation.  Uncontrollable factors remain contending with possible road repairs or back-ups in traffic to navigate through.  Once at the Marine Science facility they will be observed and rehabbed for future release into the Navy's protected waters.

We will be filming the rescue and transfer protocols for the media and creating an educational and how to document for future and similar rescues.  All donors will receive exclusive access to final film "pre-release" and with approval will be able to use for educational, fundraising or film fest events.  There will be different film credit levels donors & associations can be listed in.

*The main cost is travel expense equivalent to 70,000 mileage plus / star alliance miles and would more than appreciate any mileage donation.

*We are a registered non-profit (USA) and donation receipts available.

* Excess donations will be used to upgrade the Bali Sharks Rescue Facilities to save & release more sharks.
