CAE Maritime Middle East mangrove clean up for Earth Day

CAE Maritime ME mangrove clean up for Earth Day
updates

"Clean Up Highlight Story Earth Day 2019"

On behalf of Al Mahara Diving Center, we thank you from all the ocean and mangrove inhabitants to CAE Maritime Middle East volunteers for taking part in last year's Earth Day kayak mangrove clean up. The CAE team took to the waterways in the Eastern Mangroves in Abu Dhabi (pre-COVID-19 times) in kayaks and paddled through the mangroves and found the marine debris trapped amongst the mangrove roots. The volunteer team worked together to collect, weigh, sort, record and report what they brought back. Within 1.5 hours, they collected 87 kg (25 bags full) of debris of which they counted 113 plastic bottles, 155+ plastic bags, 38 other plastics like containers and buckets, 13 glass bottles, 582 cigarette butts and 14 metal cans. This is outstanding effort by the CAE Maritime ME team and we give them a huge applause for their commitment to protecting our waterways and oceans! Well done CAE Maritime ME team!!! We also like to thank the Environment Agency of Abu Dhabi, CWM Tadweer and Bee Ah for their support.

We also want to thank Ms Adele Beauchamp from CAE who helped to coordinate this coastal clean up on Earth Day. She is also a regular volunteer for many of our diving clean ups in Abu Dhabi and Al Jurf.

Not only did CAE ME volunteers bring back huge amounts of marine debris but they generously donated 435 Euros to Project Aware. This will support Project Aware on their mission to protect more shark species and more ocean habitats.

If your organisation would like to get involved in these activities, please contact us at [email protected] or call us at 00971-50-1118125.
