We searched directly beneath the deep water moorings that cargo ships tie to in transit to Montserrat. I believe much of this waste to have come from there. the beverage cans however, wee clumped together in natural pockets around the reef, so would have traveled from shore.

Fire extinguisher or freezer door?? Couldn't choose between them...

Single use items - beverage cans in particular this month

Carelessness of security of goods onboard floating vessels

Polystyrene - although collected from beach along the shore line they were saved from detroying the reef

We are struggling with raising awareness and getting more local interest. We have our regular helpers that join us on every events and support our actions, but this month marked the 6th consecutive monthly clean up and Dive Against Debris, still with no reduction in waste we are finding. Ideas for a stronger outreach for awareness would be greatly appreciated.

Out of sight is not out of mind. The reef and marine life is struggling the world over because of the amount of trash that litter our seas. A tiny percentage of the earth human inhabitants live on the sea, this means that it all comes from the land dwellers! We must make an effort to reduce the waste and enhance our future, start at home... Make wise product choices, Reuse packaging, Mend broken items, Recycle what has expired use and Dispose of un-recycleables sensibly. The ocean is not a dumping ground!
