Marine conservation is the happiest Halloween!
Participating in marine conservation is the happiest Halloween to experience fo any diver, recreational or professionals!
On Halloween 2015, a crew of divers were organised to remove an illegally discarded fishing net from one of the dive sites in Tunku Abdul Rahman marine park. Those dedicated Project AWARE divers included Downbelow’s full time and experienced PADI professional divers, and internship candidates in-training at our premier PADI 5 Star IDC Dive Centre. The ‘Ghost Net’ isn’t the largest or most difficult that our operations have ever retrieved from the delicate corals, but it was a dive that reflected so appropriately the day in celebration – the macabre effects of a net snagged on a reef continues to destroy the marine ecosystem. Many tribes in Sabah and Borneo celebrate Halloween in their own traditional ways, and divers celebrate the ‘souls of the sea’ aka marine life by protecting and preserving it – although marine conservation is not an activity that is restricted to take place only during Halloween, of course! Participating in marine conservation is the happiest Halloween to experience fo any diver, recreational or professionals!
