Lots of debris has probably already been washed out to deeper water before of winds and currents. One of the main problems is Abades seems to be the large bins for all debris, they are not emptied often enough. We have contacted the council about this problem twice in the last, but they won't change the bins for larger ones, refuse to put in more bins and also don't want to empty them more often. We will continue trying to convince the council, but their attitude towards the environment is a very low priority for them unfortunately.

My team have uploaded a video of this activity on YouTube #https://youtu.be/_UP06-JFF1w
The last underwater clean up at our House Reef was in May, when the wind was offshore. Since the southwest monsoon began in July, onshore winds brought a lot of debris to the shallow areas. Most of the trash is likely from tourist island hopping boats, which is why tourists need to be educated on the effects of throwing their garbage into the water.

I am currently volunteer crew on a rescue boat for Refugee Rescue, a Nongovernmental Organisation that provides afloat search and rescue support to the Hellenic Coast Guard for refugees crossing the Aegean.
The crossings, as well as being a humanitarian crisis, are posing an ecological disaster to the Aegean and the Mediterranean, as the concentration of abandoned plastics (personal possessions, sunken dinghies, lost buoyancy aids, water bottles etc) is greater than anywhere I have ever dived previously.
There are 2 abandoned vinyl dinghies on the breakwater above the waterline that I intend to access from shore and cut up into sections for disposal and removal.
Shore fishing (2 lengths of monofilament aligned with shore slipway), commercial day boat fishing (ghost gear pot found in harbour mouth.
This dive has been conducted as a Skin Dive Against Debris as most debris is easily within skin diving depths.
I am a PADI OWSI and an activist diver with Fathoms Free, Newquay, UK.

I'm hoping to reach 2017 goal with dives on the 23rd and 24th.
Area was the cleanest I have ever seen it. Granted, the waves at this location have been high for what seems like a long time. Much of the beach was eroded away with a high wall of sand where the waves had cut into the beach.
Clear mostly. Its been a wild fall and winter with high seas nearly every weekend.
