Other Fish
Species or Common Name Scorpionfish
Number Entangled 1
Status released unharmed
Type of Debris fishing net
Comments A small (~15cm) scorpionfish was caught in a section of fishing net we were removing. We were able to use scissors to cut the line from the fishing net free and the scorpionfish swam away.
Crustaceans
Species or Common Name Hermit crab
Number Entangled 2
Status released unharmed
Type of Debris fishing net
Comments Two hermit crabs were caught in a section of fishing net we were removing. We simply cut them free and placed them back on the reef.

We found several fishing nets tangled together on the rocks and coral. We were able to cut away and remove about 14 square meters of the net, about 1/5 of the total, and plan to go back to remove the rest.

Number 30, light sticks/cyalumes, seemed to be missing from the Plastic Materials section. As they are quite common at this site from recreational fishing.
