We just opened the door to the trap and let them go alive. We then explained the situation to the crabbers on the surface... they had smaller traps with no really entrapment doors. but they were very concerned and thanked us for rescuing them... it was a great feeling for everyone.
Families are permitted to crab on the dock. It's also a very busy picnic area. it really wasn't that dirty considering the heavy usage. Hats off to the park rangers for that!...
pocket knife... not unusual but the same man who lost it 3 years ago happened to be crabbing with his family while we were there. He asked about it and described it perfectly. We gave it back to him and with a little WD-40 will have it in good condition again very soon. It was a gift from his father years ago and he was very happy to have it back.
