Plastic Fragments - as fish eat the fragments they can consume them making them sick or leading to death. This goes into the food chain as birds eat the fish etc

Plastic Bottles, cups, containers etc - This soft plastic breaks down, leeches chemicals into the drinking water and ecosystem

Aluminum cans - quantity of these was most out of all trash collected. Environmental impact is less than of plastic, but it is a concern from the perspective of lack of regard for the environment, and these can be recycled rather than wasted

I found the information and tools very user friendly and helpful.

The dive site is a Quarry in a resort environment, and there are campers and trailers around. It seems most of the debris is related to that kind of environment. The event was on Canada Day, and everybody felt good after like they had contributed. We had a BBQ, awarded prizes for the buddy teams with most garbage collected, and raised $230 for Project Aware which we will be sending separately. The best part was that nearby kids gathered around and we got to share with them about the importance of aquatic health and respect for the environment. 50 people came out to support the event by diving, giving shore support, preparing food, donating etc. It was a great community effort.
