The Ghost Nets of Greece

Over the past seven months Alexandros Malagaris has led efforts to remove massive ghost nets, abandoned lobster pots as well as 4 meter length pipes off the Greek Island of Samos. Malagaris says, "The ocean is my backyard. I want to keep it clean." Read his inspirational story.

Local Divers Unite to Protect Curacao’s Reefs

Reefs worldwide are facing threats including climate change, overfishing, water pollution and marine debris from human waste like single-use plastics. While the effects of climate change must be addressed on a global scale, local communities can give their reefs the best chance of survival. Several organizations on the island are working diligently to help restore and protect Curacao’s reefs by tackling these issues.

Environmental Divers to Clean Up Marine Debris

SCUBA divers are cleaning the depths of Gold Coast waterways as part of a new environmental initiative to tackle marine debris. The 365 Diveable Days project will be the longest continual marine debris data survey ever attempted. Data collected will form part of Project AWARE's Dive Against Debris survey.

Protecting Coral Reefs in Okinawa

The Project AWARE® Japan volunteer group and PADI® Japan (Asia Pacific) share their joint 2017 environmental actions in this #YearInReview video.
Developed in cooperation with National Geographic Channel (FOX), the video highlights the efforts being made with “Team Tyura Sango” and the local community to protect coral reefs in Okinawa. These efforts will continue in 2018 as part of the International Year of the Reef #IYOR.
