Recording Breaking Fundraising
In addition to running the TCS New York City Marathon this November, Scuba Mark, a scuba instructor and fitness trainer, is looking to achieve two, never attempted Guinness World Records in full scuba diving equipment to raise €5,000 to protect our ocean.
The first record attempt will be for running the fastest half marathon in full scuba diving gear. The second record attempt will be the fastest full marathon wearing scuba gear. That means that he’s donning mask, fins, snorkel, BCD, regulator, tank, wetsuit, hood and gloves! If Mark takes any of the equipment off during his run, he loses the opportunity to snag the world first record.
As a scuba professional, Mark has seen first-hand the devastating effects that debris has on marine life. After witnessing abandoned fishing equipment and other rubbish entangling marine life, he knew he had to do something to help so he’s going all out to catch the public’s attention and support.
We are privileged to be able to see all of the beauty that our ocean provides and it's our duty to protect that for generations to come. Whether that's by doing beach and underwater clean ups, fighting to protect marine life, cutting down on single use plastics or donating to help Project AWARE's invaluable work. It all counts.
- Scuba Mark
Pollution is the one of the overarching stressors currently impacting the health of our ocean and it affects us all. Marine debris is one of the biggest sources of pollution and it’s believed that over 800 different species have been impacted by marine debris through ingestion or entanglement!
Project AWARE is tackling this issue by working at a national, multinational and international level which is why Mark is calling for donations to support action to:
- Share the underwater impacts of pollution through data collection and reporting to influence policy.
- Reduce the amount of pollution in the ocean.
- Save marine life from the detrimental impacts of pollution.
