World Ocean Day – Inspiration To Take Action
The United Nations General Assembly declared June 8 as World Oceans Day back in 2008. Since then, this event marks an occasion to inspire respect, honor the role the ocean plays in our lives and to take action to protect our ocean. It’s an incredible opportunity to inform the public of the impact of human behavior is having on our ocean and further the ocean conservation movement.
Plastic is choking our ocean which is why Project AWARE calls on a reduction of plastic use every day to protect our marine life from ingestion or entanglement. This World Ocean Day 2020 we are eager to share our message and encourage action for our ocean.
In alignment with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal 14 – Life Below Water, we are committed to addressing the global marine debris crisis from an underwater perspective through citizen science and community engagement. Countries and other municipalities can use our scientifically sound Dive Against Debris® data to advance policies and legislation at national and international levels. In the wake of COVID-19, having the ability to monitor debris items will become an essential component to evaluate the social, economic and environmental impacts of COVID-19.
World Ocean Day inspires us to take action to protect what we love. Are you are ready to champion our ocean with fins on or off?
