With Valentine’s Day coming up, think of the great couples of our time: Ben & Jerry, Harry & Meghan, peanut butter & jelly, and so on. But there is one pairing that was just meant to be; the Dive Against Debris Specialty course and the Project AWARE C-Card. Honestly, why would you have one without the other? Cupid certainly wouldn’t have it any other way.

Coincidentally, Valentine’s Day is the 161st birthday of the State of Oregon in the U.S., where our local dive shop, Eugene Skin Divers Supply, is located. ESDS (as we like to call it) has been around since 1956. During those 64 years, ESDS has always been involved with environmental stewardship. Before there was a Dive Against Debris, ESDS worked with the local dive community to conduct underwater clean-ups in our local rivers, lakes and the Pacific Ocean. Once Dive Against Debris arrived, ESDS fell in love with the idea.

Although diving in Oregon can be challenging this time of year, we are a hearty bunch. So, we decided that coupling Valentine’s Day and the Dive Against Debris Specialty course would be a great opportunity to bring people together for love of the sport and the aquatic realm. And, for those divers who celebrate Singles Awareness Day, it’s the perfect opportunity to meet a new dive buddy.

For our Valentine’s Day Dive Against Debris event, ESDS will show some love and donate $10 for each student that takes our Dive Against Debris Specialty course. They will all get their very own Project AWARE C-Card.

Project AWARE C-Cards are not only important to show your Valentine that you care about the environment, but also because Project AWARE receives a large amount of its funding from these donations. This funding goes to support a variety of community and policy actions aimed at protecting sharks and rays, as well as education & awareness campaigns for ocean protection and tackling the global marine debris crisis. So, even if you can’t be there this Valentine’s Day to help us out, get a Project AWARE C-Card with your next dive certification...
