In honour of Project AWARE® week, Blue Marine Dive Trawangan will be hosting a sponsored Dive Against Debris®.  All proceeds and efforts from this event will go towards raising awareness and funds for our local NGO on Gili Trawangan, the Gili Eco Trust.

 

Blue Marine Dive is a family-run dive centre that has been operating since 1999. Here at Blue Marine Dive Trawangan, we are passionate about creating environmentally-considerate divers who love our ocean home. We aim to use our platform as a diving school to encourage awareness and action through conservation-based events.

The Gili Eco Trust’s mission is:
·       To create a sustainable island, promote ecotourism and provide a healthy environment for working animals.
·       To restore our coral reefs and to replenish natural fish populations.
·       To ensure that all waste created on Gili Trawangan is reduced to minimum levels, and managed and separated properly for recycling projects where materials can be transported off the island.
 
The Gili Trawangan Biorock™ project run by the Gili Eco Trust is an artificial reef project which aims to restore and protect our shallow reefs that were previously damaged by harmful fishing practices and bleaching events.
 
Our team will be heading onto our Project AWARE® adopted house reef on Saturday 21 September, along with certified divers wishing to join us, to spend a dive clearing any debris we find. All debris we collect will be recorded, weighed, and disposed of responsibly. We will re-use or recycle all that we can!

All sponsorship contributions will go towards building a new artificial Biorock reef! Any extra funds will be put towards supporting the Gili Eco Trust in the purchase of a new trash barge, to aid in the transport of waste and recycling off of our small island, and onto Lombok where it can be properly managed.
