Dive Against Debris Day 2018

Project AWARE, Dive Against Debris
updates

The weather broke the rules and was much better than forecast, so the day got off to a cracking start.

The venue is a lovely lake area much used by many different watersports. The refuse collected reflected the activities that go on around and on the lake, along with the usual human debris of drink and food containers.

The park management were wonderful in providing proper disposal of the large amount of debris collected, even recycling where possible.

Most of our guys did a couple of dives, surfacing once the collection bags were full or a larger item was recovered.

We managed to attract a fair amount of interest from the public which always helps raise awareness of the debris problem and hopefully makes people think about single use plastic and the alternatives.
