Browns Bay - Dive against Debris and Beach Clean Up
Ends
Splash for Trash
After two successful sea and beach clean up days at Flamborough, Scuba Leeds will be trying out a new site to remove even more trash (while enjoying a shore dive and hopefully find a wreck!) Scuba Leeds are a 100% AWARE dive centre, so we are donning our fins to make a stand against debris. Join our team and grab a mesh bag to remove any debris we can in the water. Every piece of trash we remove will be documented and the results submitted to Project AWARE. These dives do make a genuine impact on the health of our oceans.
After a dive, (and a quick brew), our team will be completing a beach clean up at Whitley Bay. It really is a great feeling making a real difference to our oceans and the local wildlife.
Browns Bay is accessed over rocks, with shallow diving over kelp and a wreck within access from the shore, its easy to see why Browns Bay has become a favorite spot with divers over the years. Marine life can be varied but Flatfish, Pipefish, Wrasse, Crabs, Lobster and even sightings of Octopus will keep you entertained. For those interested in wrecks, the 100 year old wreck of SS Butetown can be found at 10m depth - you can still make out the outline of the vessel and find the ships boilers.
Our debris shore dives are proving to be very popular, with a chance to get out of the quarries and into the sea, while also contributing to cleaning our oceans and coastline. If you haven't completed a shore dive in the UK, come and gain some experience with an instructor or Divemaster around to assist and offer advice.
And of course, a stop off after for Fish and Chips will be required!
