This Women's Dive Day, July 21, we are celebrating women who are leading community actions, fins on and fins off, for a clean and healthy ocean. The ladies at The Dive Bus Curacao share with us what they are doing and why they do it.

“Keeping Curacao's reefs trash free and healthy has been our priority since the very beginning of The Dive Bus. It's something Mark and I have always been passionate about because as divers, it's simply the right thing to do. As dive shop owners, it's important that our Crew believe that too, do it automatically on every dive they make, thereby influencing our divers to do the same. And they do a great job.

When the rest of the Curacao Dive Task force dive centers adopted their house reefs through Project AWARE last year, we thought our Clean Up groups would get smaller. But they didn't, and now more people than ever are joining in more dive site clean ups, all over Curacao. Together everyone is doing a heck of a job, and we're thankful and proud of what we're achieving by working together. Not only that, it's a lot of fun, too.

"I'm the one responsible for setting up monthly Dives Against Debris® at The Dive Bus, and I'm constantly amazed at how many divers join in each time. Besides our local divers, lots of vacation divers take the time to help us keep Curacao's reefs clean and healthy.

It's not only about cleaning up on Dives Against Debris though. We try to make it as easy as possible for our divers and the Dive Bus Crew to keep the beaches and reefs clean on every dive. It's brilliant how many divers join in and seem to really appreciate what we're trying to do.

Since becoming a 100% AWARE partner, Dive Bus PADI dive course graduates receive special versions of their cert cards and Project AWARE info. This reinforces the messages and actions from when they were diving with us, and hopefully influences them to continue taking care of our reefs and keep them trash-free, wherever in the world their next dive adventures take them."
