Debris = Bad, Diving = Happy/Sad

updates

We have witnessed the continual destruction of our planet . . . and our Oceans decline and become a dumping ground . . . while marine animals are versatile, and a quote from my favourite movie "life finds a way", it really shouldn't have to. I love to support Project AWARE, particularly dive against debris, I like to make ALL of my dives against debris, my BCD pockets are continually full of rubbish that I am collecting on my dives, lots of fishing line, plastic bags and LOADS of plastic bottles. . . my word have I never seen so many plastic bottles underwater. The quicker they can be banned (inevitable I think) or a suitable alternative can be found, biodegradable bottles are possible, the better! The statistics around the reduction in use of plastic bags is a great indicator of how success in the areas can be made, once government legislation is supported by the private sector . . . makes me happy.

Something that makes me happy/sad is when I am removing debris from the ocean I take a quick look inside to make sure I am not taking living organisms out of the ocean . . Marine animals ability to adapt is often demonstrated when they take our vast quantities of rubbish and can find a way to make a home. Do not confuse this as being acceptable, we need to remember that the ocean would be in a much better position without the rubbish and debris, but lets not make these guys homeless or worse remove them from the water and risk killing the animals, just be cautious and speak to a professional, they will know what to do. It is a happy sad/moment when these beautiful and amazing creatures are having to use our rubbish as their own new habitat because we are doing such a great job of destroying their own natural habitat.
