Underwater Clean up at Buntzen Lake

Project Aware dive at Buntzen lake
updates

On September 18th we got a bunch of divers together from the Vancouver Diving Locker to clean up some of that junk that got collected over the summer months at Buntzen Lake.

After meeting in the morning to sort out all gear rentals, mesh bags and lights we made our way to beautiful Buntzen Lake. Some divers meeting us there were already on the site with their gear ready to go and keen to get that lake cleaned up.

After a quick introduction from Tracy working at the wardens office at Buntzen Lake we knew which areas needed a clean up and we made our way to the polluted areas.

Over two dives we pulled out 120.2 kg of bottles, cans, paddles, sunglasses, iPhones and lots more random items. We enjoyed a nice BBQ in between dives and were lucky for the weather to stay warm and sunny for us. The rain caught up on us when we were back at the shop. Lucky us!

A few epic prizes were waiting for the team to reward them for their efforts. Among other things we had a first stage, mask, snorkel, booties, gear bag and more prizes as donations from our suppliers to thank them for preserving the natural beauty for future generations.

One dive at a time.

We are looking forward to our spring clean up and hope to get many people who get their hands on the trash!
