August 18th Weekly Beach Clean

updates

Here at Pez Maya, we enjoy our weekly beach cleans in the sunshine of the Caribbean Coast of Mexico, while helping preserve our beautiful beaches. Today we have completed our beach clean, gathering a total of 57.9 kg of trash! Every week we cover a differen transect of the beach collecting trash, as well as recording the data in order to understand which rubbish is more common than others. A total of 22 people attended this event.

This week, we were able to scavange a large variety of rubbish. The most prevelent trash of the week was unfortunately fishing supplies, with a massive amount of 1125 meters of rope. Besides fishing supplies, there were large sums of plastic and styrofoam, lollipop sticks, lighters, straws, cutlery, cosmetics, and many more objects. Luckily, we were able to recycle 2.1 kg of the debris found, making a slightly better impact on the environment. Stay tuned for next week to see what wild rubbish we collect next!
