Oriental Bay Beach & Underwater Clean Up Feb 2016

updates

Once again we joined the team at Adventure Wellington to clean up around Oriental Bay. A great team of surface support tackled the rocky shoreline - it looks clean from a distance but the amount of rubbish trapped in the gaps is amazing and the team didn't have to move far to collect bags of rubbish.

Our local Mayor, Celia Wade-Brown , came along to participate as a snorkeler and ventured out to the breakwater where she collected a lot of polystyrene boxes amongst other debris.

2 teams of divers headed underwater and collected a range of items including a shopping trolley, construction netting and lights, bottles, cans, a camera lens, a variety of cloting items including a hat and knickers. We also found a bicycle helmet - with each team finding half of it.

After hauling the rubbish up to the surface we spent some time removing a variety of marine life from it, including sea stars, sea cucumbers, crabs, chitons and nudibranchs.
