updates

Crimson Resort & Spa Mactan, one of the 10 ASEAN Green Hotel Awardee organized the second Dive Against Debris,  supported by the City of Lapu-Lapu and the different organizations including Task Force Kalikasan and CFARMwhich. The event was participated by more than 80 divers from different dive shops – Scotty’s, Boyla, Sea Knights; government agencies – PCGA, PNP, LLCDRRMO, CENRO and Korean Divers from the Korean Diving Association, Coral Blue and the resort’s dive representatives from various operational department.

Dive Against Debris, a global dive initiative that started in Australia by PADE Project Aware is a worldwide initiative that provide dive shops and organizations a platform and framework for organized dives that allow collective reporting of debris and marine environment conditions.

The underwater clean-up covered the different areas spanning the Hilutungan Channel, with some dive groups carefully selecting those areas suspected to have the most number of debris because of nearby settlements or current direction.

“We want this to be a regular event by the resort. This is the second time we’re doing this and the response is positive considering the number of diver participation. We’re happy that a lot of dive enthusiasts are helping us with this effort to protect the ocean” shares Crimson Resort’s General Manager Kristofer Quadros.

“The resort has its own marine sanctuary, it’s our initiative to keep a healthy marine environment near the resort. Which in turns gives us leverage not only for having a healthy marine life but because our guests actually enjoy seeing the bounty of marine life when they snorkel or dive in the area.”

Dive Against Debris is just one of the many initiatives the resort supports for a better earth. Licensed divers and dive shops are encouraged to join the next dive. Details will be available at the resort’s facebook page.
