the net at Ray Point

updates

So today our DMs went out to guide their guests as usual. On the second Dive DM Helmi came across a new fishing net that was laying on the reef in the shallows. Needing to do the safety stop anyway Helmi tried, with the help of our guest Bruce, to untangle the net from the reef. With only a small Z-knife they couldn't do much, but managed to cut of a good piece of it, freeing two entangled crabs and a stonefish within 15 minutes before they had to surface.

Back on the Rig Helmi told over lunch the story to the others in the Team. It was clear for us that we had to go back and cut it off. Our DMs on Dryday, Adam and Kyna, volunteered to come along and I brought my student to take some pictures of us cutting the rest of the net off. Weaponed with 5 knifes we went back to the divesite Ray Point, Mabul Island (state of Sabah in Malaysia), and within 6 to 7 minutes we freed the reef from the rest of the net. All of it weighted 5.5kg in the end.

In the picture are DM Helmi, our guest Bruce, me, DM Kyna and DM Adam in the center bottom.
