I noticed the event call early Dec, it took my attention so I called Mr Mohamed Madany, PADI Staff Instructor, to see what else could be added to the event.   The call for the event was coming from egyptian divers all over egypt, 11 coastal states to dive at noon with egyptian flag, create a healthy environment and rise the awareness of Egyptian tourists about our underwater world.   All the action has been conducted in Arabic language to ensure the understanding of the plan, after a few meetings with other organizers we agreed to conduct three mini lectures on the 30th Dec: 1- Dahab local dive site: Briefing about 11 most famous dive sites including best time to dive in those places and when to avoid them to ensure a safe the environment, it was very interesting to see how Dahab dive sites changed through out the years. 2- Egypt general touristic sites: Fantastic lecturer Ahmed Allam (Padi MSDT), in his presentation I discovered so many secret places in egypt and far away that i had never heard of. For example, we have, in Sinai, big and dry caves which look very similar to the ones I visited in france last year, just 4 hours away! Another place was the forest of Elgelf Alkaber located far south west of Egypt, looking like pictures I've seen of forests in Kenya. Ahmed's presentation was very interesting and I really enjoyed it. 3- AWARE and Dahab Beach Underwater Clean Up Briefing: My presentation included an introduction to the Project Aware Foundation followed by a lecture about the benefits such projects could bring to Dahabians. I also talked about reef conservation and reminded the participants of responsible dive practice. Finally I explained about the Dive Against Debris survey we would conduct the next day and briefed the dive.
  31stDec2015, it was time and we were all excited and ready! We started assembling our banners and flags at 10:30am, the spirit was very high as many more divers arrived to join the event dive, very cooperative local shops and restaurants helping and donating tools to help with the action. Surprisingly, divers that had not known about our event also decided to join as soon as they saw us getting ready at the Light House dive site.   After taking the opportunity to take a few photos and record the event, we got on the surface and underwater clean-ups. The underwater clean-up was  conducted in shallow water, upto 12 meters, covering the area between Banner Fish Bay and Light House Coral side. There were 32 divers equipped with mesh bags, gloves, cutting tools and many GO PRO cameras and the dive lasted 45 min. We collected 35m of mooring line from the old confined setup, 50 disintegrated pieces of cloth fabric, 145 cigarette butts, 2 fishing lines, 8 cardboard papers, 2 glass bottles, 8 rubber diving straps, 2 aluminum cans, as well as loads of (60/70) disintegrated plastic bags .   After we finished recording the survey we gave the project AWARE Certificate of Recognition to the divers we supervised full of hope all that actions such as this one will motivate others to do the same and that we will all do our best to save the coral for our future kids.   Thank you all for this life time experience, and keeping our sea healthy and clean!
