Seaview Marina Clean Up - 12th September

updates

Our new Divemasters organised and ran our big clean up event at Seaview Marina.
The morning weather was cold and once the hail started we wondered if our divers would show up - but of course they did. They figured it would be warmer underwater than staying on the surface.

Buddy teams were assigned different piers to clean and after a giant stride entry they were off with a tyre and bucket returned to the surface almost immediately. The divers found swimming in a straight line with low vis and compasses affected by the boats, challenging and were often surprised when they surfaced in a different spot than expected.

The marina was cleaner than they expected but they still managed to collect over 40kg of rubbish including bottles, brushes, mats and a drill battery. The rubbish was pulled on to the pier by our surface support team and decrittered with lots of starfish, chitons and even a fish returned to the water.

By the time the divers finished their clean up dive the sun was shining and it was atime to record all the data while lunch was cooking on the BBQ.

Thanks to our Dive Masters and our divers for helping make this event so successful.
