Project AWARE Clean up at the South West Wall of the Gold Coast Seaway

updates

What an awesome effort! Between 5 divers; in 90 minutes, we pulled out 20 cans, 16 straws, 1 knife, 1 spear shaft, 1 fishing rod and reel, 2 knife scabbards, 5 plastic cups, 7lbs of lead, 5 thongs, 1 bong, 1 syringe, 142 assorted glass bottles, 3 bottle fragments, 25 assorted plastic bags, 1/2 a rugby jersey, partial engine/motor block approx 4km fishing line, a pair of sunglasses, assorted hooks and fishing lures. It filled up an entire wheelie bin!

Congratulations to Adrian who has won a $50 credit with Professional Dive Services for filling his bag and then assisting others to fill theirs. He was a clean up machine! It was a brilliant effort from everyone involved. More money raised for PADI's Project AWARE and even more importantly a lot of rubbish removed from our favourite local dive site. Hopefully the visitors to the X-Cats this weekend don't undo all of our hardwork. Our next dedicated clean up will be on the 19th of October but we will be cleaning up as we dive in the interim. Thank you again to all of the divers and well done!
