Brunei's First EVER Dive Against Debris Specialty Course!

updates

On May 28th 2015 at Poni Divers Brunei we ran our first ever Dive Against Debris Specialty Course!

The dives were led by PADI Master Instructor Johnny Hayward with assistance from PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor Selina Tang.

In total we had 4 student divers take the course: Dave Mitchell, Kieran White & Andrew Mead who are all working towards their PADI Master Scuba Diver Certification, and Colin Mead who is already certified as PADI Divemaster.

We decided that the dive site we would be cleaning up would be Pelong Rock as over the past few months we have noticed a lot of human-made debris building up in the area.

Over the course of two dives at Pelong Rock we managed to collect a range of debris items from car tyres and bottles to the more typical fishing net and fishing line. The dive site looked a million times better after its face-lift, and the animals seemed to appreciate it too, with plenty of curious wrasse paying our group a visit and darting about.

Our student divers thoroughly enjoyed the experience and everyone left feeling buoyed by having contributed in such a positive way to our precious marine environment.
