Campaign in Costa Rica´s Southern Caribbean coast: testimonies and drawings about memorable experiences at sea

updates

A campaign for children, youth and adults write or draw their most memorable experiences at sea was launched this June 8 by the Diving Center "Ambassadors of the Sea" of the Association of Artisanal Fishermen in the Southern Caribbean (ASOpacs) in honor of the ocean in its  World Day.

June 8 is World Ocean Day, declared by the United Nations (UN) since 2009 to raise awareness about the need to protect the oceans. "In order to ensure the health of our communities and for future generations it is imperative that we look after the oceans with the same intensity as they take care of us," says the UN.

The theme for 2015 is "healthy oceans, a healthy planet" and it recognizes that the oceans are the heart of our planet because oceans connect people around the world, regardless of where they live. They also regulate the climate, feed millions of people, produce oxygen, provide habitat for a variety of living beings and give us medicines and many more resources, accoding to the UN.

Our special campaign to honor this in Costa Rica´s Southern Caribbean goes from June 8 to September 20.  As of that final day, the Diving Center will prepare packets for the media to recognize the contributions of each school in the Southern Caribbean and its Regional Office along every other adult contribution.

June 8: World Ocean Day

Write your best memory of interaction with the ocean

June 8, World Ocean Day: write your marine memory as a tribute to our oceans

June 8 is World Oceans Day, declared by the United Nations.  The sea is life, is the source of life, lungs of the planet, inseparable friend of terrestrial ecosystems and of all humanity, especially close friendship with coastal populations like ours in the South Caribbean of Costa Rica.

The Diving Center "Ambassadors of the Sea" is calling all to commemorate that day by launching a campaign for individuals, schools and colleges in the South Caribbean who love the sea, to write a page or two or a drawing with your best marine memories and send them to us by September 20th.

The narratives and drawings will be done from June 8 - September 20, 2015.

On 27 September in the framework of the 4th Lionfish Tournament by the Association of Artisanal Fisher people of the Southern Caribbean (ASOpacs) to capture lionfish, we will publicly recognize the contributions in the activity and will have provided national and international media with packets about them.

Special mention will be given to schools that deliver more than 100 narratives or pictures of students and their communities.

Please put name and age, the place where the sea has the story, school name, country and send it to: [email protected] or call 86581091 for the School to collect contributions before 20 September.
