Children´s diving summer camp to clean beaches in Cocles, Puerto Viejo, Talamanca in Costa Rica

updates

This coming July 6 and 7, 2015 CEBUembajadores diving center for youth is organizing a pilot project to teach children, mostly grandchildren and children of Fisher people in Costa Ricas Southern Caribbean , to dive with intent: develop shoreline clean-ps, learn to snorkel, learn to identify invasive Lionfish  and write about their good experiences in the ocean.

This time, 30 kids between 4 – 13 years old will take part in the camp. A precedent took place last May 1 st as an experimental experience within a Lionfish sweep by the Center´s youth and parents and a Cocles reef clean-up by all.

Three fisherwomen run the camp:  Lucía Heránadez, Rocío León and Blanca Espinoza, all member of the Association of Artisanala Fisherpeople of the Southern Caribbean.

Support for the activities of the camp have come from The Association Friendos of the Foundation Action Now, the Inter American Foundation (IAF) and a group of Social workers from Canada and USA who donated masks and snotrkels.
