Dive Against Debris - H2O Divers Dahab - Let's clean up Masbat Bay 11th Dec

updates

With the help of Lighthouse Dive Centre we mustered 8 divers and brought out 80 Kgs of debris from Masbat Bay.  We devided into 2 groups and had a flour sack from a local bakery each. One group walked up to Lighthouse entry and swam south back to H2O, will another took a trolley down to the bridge and swam north.

Alot of debris was collected near the bridge as it is where the rain water flows into the bay on the rare occassions it does rain.

When we got back to H2O We found alot of plastic piping, carpets, cigarette butts, cans, glass and plastic bottles.  There are alot of tyres in front of the dive center and many have coral growing on them, however we found one which had no growth on it so removed it.  We've heard that though tyre can create a great habitate, they have a nasty habit of release harmful chemicals into the water along time after they are thrown in the sea. http://www.theguardian.com/society/2002/may/15/environment.waste

Till next time. Dom.
