Life: Our best gift to nature!

updates

On many of the ‘Ghost Net’ removals conducted from our premier PADI 5 Star IDC Dive Centre, life is our best gift to nature!

When a team of 5 committed Project AWARE divers removed an illegally discarded fishing net from a reef in the protected TAR marine park, several crustaceans, such as lobsters. And when creatures with many appendages, such as lobsters and crabs, get caught in the entanglements of fishing net lines it’s so difficult to free them!

The reason why so many were found, and alive as well, is because crustaceans hunt at night. The fishing net recently found by our professional diving staff was dumped very recently, possibly the night before, because when it was removed, the lines were relatively clean of organic material. Crustaceans natural predators are few and far between during the daytime, so many were found still alive, because not many animals are able to penetrate their hard exterior!
