Saving the planet one step at a time.

updates

Our planet is suffering and we see it everyday. From the unbearable heat to the natural disasters, from the endangered and extinct animals to the rising sea levels. And we all know that it is time to do something about it - start saving the planet one step at a time!

There are so many ways to protect the environment. Not to use our cars as often, or use one car for 4 people instead of everyone taking their own, turn off devices, lights and water when we don't use them, use eco-friendly products, cut down on plastic…the list is endless for preventing further damage. Our own Sabah Travel Centre HQ in Kota Kinabalu is strictly a plastic-free, paperless and energy and water-saving operations, as we believe in responsible tourism and take measures to perform our corporate responsibility to the natural environment!

But what about repairing the damage already done? The easiest thing to do is to recycle, so that there is no need in cutting more trees, making more plastic and glass. And how about picking up debris? Discarding plastic bags, packets, chewing gum, will likely end up in the sea, and eventually cause negative effects on the natural balance of the underwater world for years because it's slow to degenerate.

At Downbelow, beach clean ups are an everyday routine for the island staff team, and contributing to preserve our marine environment is increbibly satisfying...especially when they see the proof of their efforts in the several eco-friendly biodegradable bags filled to bursting after a morning spent collecting all marine debris from the beach shoreline outside our 5 Star Dive Centre
