2015 Dive Against Debris Project at Sand Harbor State Park, Lake Tahoe, Nevada

updates

I started 2015 attending a New Years Day dive at Sand Harbor State Park located at Lake Tahoe, Nevada.  The New Years Day dive is an annual event that brings local Nothern Nevada divers and dive centers together for a day of diving and friendship.  I represent Tahoe Dive Center at this annual event and was diving with a divemaster who regularly works with me.

The divemaster divng with me asked about my invovlement with Project AWARE's Dive Against Debris program and the Dive Against Debris Sepcialtiy Diver course.  Our conversation turned into a spontaneous knowledge development session that ultimatley became a dive briefing for six of our local divers who wanted to make the first dive of the year count!!!  The divers were provided with Project AWARE debris collection bags and we were off make this dive matter.  Six divers collected nearly eight pound of debris from the dive site and a PADI Divemaster earned his Dive Against Debris Specialty Diver certification.

While we were exiting the water with our debris and trash in collection bags two local, non-divers, who live near Lake Tahoe approached us and shook our hands thanking us for our efforts to keep Lake Tahoe a pristine aquatic resource.  What a great experience to be viewed by these non-divers as ambassadors to the underwater world.

This spontaneous Dive Against Debris event provided me with the opportunity to get local divers to support doing a monthly Dive Agaisnt Debris dive at this dive site during 2015.  I look forward to updating this BLOG in February new information about our 2015 Dive Against Debris Project!!!

UPDATE: February Dive Against Debris

We decided to show our love for our ocean planet by spending Valentine's Day diving against debris with PROJECT Aware.  Three divers participated and we collected eight pounds of debris from Diver's Cove at Lake Tahoe.  A big congratulations to Christy S. On earning her PADI Project AWARE Dive Against Debis Specialty Diver Certification.  Great job everybody!!!!  See you next month for our next 2015 Diver's Cove Dive Against Debris.

UPDATE: March Dive Against Debris

This month Tim, Casey and Makeihla joined in for some Drysuit continuting education and to clean up our Sand Harbor dive site.  We had to deal with some wind and rougher conditions this month but we managed to get six pounds of marine debris out of Lake Tahoe this month.

UPDATE: April Dive Against Debris

We will be celebrating Earth Day in the Philippines this month so our April dive will be postponed into May when we will be making two dive against debris dives to keep our project on course.
