Dive Agaist Debris - Marina Country Club

updates

On Dec 3, we did 2 dives in two different locations to find out what local area is suitable for more Dive Against Debris events for Asia Dive Academy.

The first was the new berth area of MV Nautica in Marina Country Club (MCC) in Punggol. We did not really know what to expect underwater in the marina, except low visibility.
Donning a fullsuit and gloves, Alfred and I descended at the closest dolphin to about 5m.

There were mussels, starfish, and silt galore and also a heck load of rubbish. I had the mesh bag, practically did not move 1m away from the dolphin and was already busy collecting odd things. The majority of my time was spend extricating an embedded harness.

In the meantime, Alfred was swimming around the dolphin picking up obvious trash. After abt 15minutes, though we could still hear each other, but the area was so silted up we could not find each other so we ended the dive.

There were the expected debris from being next to a pier - such as a bicycle lock, the harness. Things may accidentally fall in, but we should go in a pick them up.

And also a lot of plastic rubbish, which is really disheartening. Food wrappers, a straw , a yakult drink container, styrofoam - we humans are really polluting the environment so casually. with our disposable attitude towards consuming things.

All in all, it was quite a lot of rubbish for a few square meters in such a short time and worth coming back to clean up more of the area.
