After the island was devastated in 2014 by cyclone Ita and cyclone Nathen a few months later debris from these events is still evident in the water prompting divers to run the islands first Dive Against Debris event. In addition to this the resorts house reef has been adopted with divers pledging to do monthly clean ups and checks reporting data back to Project AWARE.
